Just discovered this production clip of a Doctor Who anime. Impressive work by Paul “OtaKing” Johnson. The story is highlighting the Jon Pertwee “Man of Action” Doctor, with fantastic new designs for the Cyberman and Davros. Perfect choices for an anime style Doctor Who.
Okay the quality is poor, but here is a recording of the Doctor Who trailer that was shown at Comic-Con. For a description of the trailer check out io9.com. With any luck BBC will release an official trailer soon.
Originally shown at Comic-Con, here is the new trailer for the next special. Remember the knock four times is from Planet of the Dead, prophesying the Doctor’s song is ending. Which in turn was referenced earlier by the Ood back in Planet of the Ood.
Russell T Davies, David Tennant, Euros Lyn and Julie Gardner answer questions from the audience at Comic-Con. The four parts don’t line up perfectly and sound is an issue at points, but this seems to provide the majority of the Q&A. No previews are included.
It was announced the other day that Tom Baker would be reprising the role of The Doctor in a BBC audio program. An interview with Tom Baker is being published in the Doctor Who Magazine. The magazine will hit stands in the UK on July 23, so we can expect parts of the interview to hit the web in the next few days. The magazine is difficult to find in the states, but not impossible. Check out your local comic book store, though realize we’re typically several weeks behind in the distribution. In the meantime, Den of Geek has the titles and brief description of the 5 radio adventures.
Filming for the new series is underway. Which of course provides glimpses of things to come, one being the official look of the new Doctor. With his next regeneration, the Doctor will be trading in the brown and/or blue pinstripe suits for a tweed jacket and bow tie. It definitely has an academic, quirky science teacher, flavor to it. Time will tell if this becomes a standard uniform or is simply a general look that will be carried forward.
Other items revealed today is a slightly updated exterior to the Tardis, now sporting white window frames. No word yet on if the minor exterior adjustment will mean a new interior appearance. Also announced today is the name of the Doctor’s new companion; Amy Pond, played by Karen Gillan.
As the filming progresses I am sure more pieces of the puzzle will continue to emerge. However, we have to what until next year before we see first hand what Matt Smith will bring to the role of the Doctor.
BBC One has released their Autumn schedule, providing a little more information about the next Doctor Who special The Waters of Mars. Below is the official description from the BBC One schedule. The special is expected to air sometime in November.
Doctor Who – The Waters Of Mars
David Tennant returns as The Doctor in The Waters Of Mars, the second of four Doctor Who specials being screened on BBC One this year. He is joined by his cleverest and most strong-minded companion yet, Adelaide, played by acclaimed British actress Lindsay Duncan.
Adelaide is head of the Mars Base and doesn’t take kindly to an uninvited appearance by The Doctor. Peter O’Brien, star of Neighbours, Flying Doctors and Casualty, also guest stars as Ed, Adelaide’s second in command.
The Waters Of Mars is written by Russell T Davies and Phil Ford and is directed by Graeme Harper.
It’s certainly been the week for Doctor Who announcements. Today the BBC announced that Karen Gillan will be joining Matt Smith as the Doctor’s new companion in 2010. She already had a small taste of Doctor Who; appearing as the Soothsayer in The Fires of Pompeii.
